Allen Farst Joins FilmDayton Board of Trustees

Writer, director and filmmaker brings industry experience and regional leadership to nonprofit film organization

DAYTON, Ohio Allen Farst, a filmmaker, writer, and director, has joined the Board of Trustees of FilmDayton, the nonprofit, volunteer-driven organization dedicated to advancing the art, craft and business of film in the Dayton region.

Farst’s appointment reflects both his long-standing connection to the Dayton film community and his broader commitment to the growth of independent filmmaking, creative collaboration, and regional production. As a writer and director, Farst has built a career around visual storytelling, developing projects across film and media with a focus on strong narrative, cinematic execution, and meaningful audience connection. He is also a member of the Directors Guild of America (DGA).

Throughout his career, Farst has worked to bring stories to life while helping strengthen the filmmaking ecosystem around him. His work as a filmmaker has been shaped not only by the creative demands of writing and directing, but also by the relationships, resources, and regional support systems that make production possible. That connection makes his appointment to the FilmDayton board especially meaningful.

FilmDayton has long played a central role in supporting filmmakers, students, crew, and film enthusiasts across the Miami Valley. The organization brings together the local film community through monthly Film Connections meetings, promotes and supports film events throughout the region, and continues to help train and grow local talent and crew. FilmDayton originated from the DaytonCREATE effort to foster the growth of the creative class and strengthen the local economy.

“I’m pleased to join the board of FilmDayton,” said Allen Farst. “They have supported my career in many different ways — everything from clearing locations to introductions to crew and local talent, along with supporting film releases. I’m grateful for all they do to strengthen filmmaking in our region, and I look forward to contributing to that mission in this new role.”

As a member of the Board of Trustees, Farst will support FilmDayton’s ongoing efforts to grow the region’s film community, encourage collaboration, and create new opportunities for filmmakers, students, and audiences in Dayton and throughout Southwest Ohio.
